它們是“人人喊錯” 的 "Chinglish"，但其實(shí)在英語中是可以使用的，雖然和正式用語有所區(qū)別，卻被大家接受并廣泛使用。一起來認(rèn)識一下它們吧！

短語系列

1. Long time no see

英文釋義：

Used as a greeting for someone one has not seen for a long time. [informal]

用來問候很久沒見的人（非正式表達(dá)）

流傳最多的說法是，"long time no see" 發(fā)源于20世紀(jì)初期，由我國沿海地區(qū)專門負(fù)責(zé)為國外商人采購，貨物買賣等事宜的“買辦“創(chuàng)造出來的。

買辦們?yōu)榱伺c洋人更好地交流，自己創(chuàng)造出了一種被稱為“洋徑浜”英語（Pidgin English）的“變格英語”。（英語與其他語言混雜形成的語言）

由于他們的英語水平有限，“好久不見” 直接翻譯成 "Long time no see"。

例句：

- Hello, Ting. Long time no see. How are things going? - 你好，婷。好久不見，一切都好嗎？ - Long time no see. I'm good. - 好久不見呀！我還可以。

2. Add oil

英文釋義：

Express encouragement, incitement, or support: go on! go for it!

用以表達(dá)鼓勵、激勵、或支持，相當(dāng)于英文的 "go on!" 或 "go for it！".

源自香港英文，主要也是香港英文的說法，中式英文 add oil（加油）一詞已經(jīng)編入了《牛津英語詞典》（Oxford English Dictionary）。

例句：

If we really are serious about being Asia's World City, we still have a lot of work to do. So add oil, everyone！ 要想成為亞洲的世界級城市，我們還有很多的工作要做。所以大家加油吧！

3. Lose face / save face

英文釋義：

Suffer a loss of respect; be humiliated.

失去尊重; 被羞辱

用法：

sb. lose face，不是lose one's face，也不是lose the face.

例句：

John's careless work made him lose face with his employer. 約翰工作疏忽，在老板面前丟了臉。

同理，save face，意思是指挽回面子、保全面子，延伸的形容詞還有face-saving。

例句：

The scandal was hushed up in an effort to save face. 為了不丟人，沒有把這一丑聞張揚(yáng)出去。

4. Brainwash

英文釋義：

If you brainwash someone, you force them to believe something by continually telling them that it is true, and preventing them from thinking about it properly.

如果你洗腦某人，你強(qiáng)迫他們相信某事，不斷地告訴他們這是真的，并阻止他們正確地思考。

Brain（腦子）和wash（洗）組成的“Brainwash”，就是字面的意思“洗腦”，是根據(jù)中文“洗腦”演變出來的。

例句：

Don't let television commercials brainwash you into buying anything you actually don't need. 別讓電視廣告引誘你購買自己實(shí)際不需要的東西。

5. No can do

英文釋義：

l am unable to do it. [informal]

做不到

來自洋涇浜英語，20世紀(jì)初期，很多華人來到美國，由于英文底子不好，說英文的時(shí)候會受到大量母語影響，從而創(chuàng)造出很多 "Chinglish"，而 "No can do" 就是其中之一。

例句：

- Can you help me take the garbage out? - 能幫忙扔個(gè)垃圾嗎？ - No can do. - 不行。

1. Dim sum[?d?m ?s?m]

英文釋義：

Dim sum is a Chinese dish of dumplings filled with meat or other ingredients.

中國有餡兒的點(diǎn)心，中式點(diǎn)心。

來自粵語“點(diǎn)心”dim sum。

例句：

Actually, drinking tea in Cantonese tea house not only includes tea but also snacks or dim sum in the local dialect. 在廣東茶館喝茶，不僅是喝，還要吃，這里還提供小零食或地方風(fēng)味的點(diǎn)心。

2. Chow mein[?t?a? ?me?n]

英文釋義：

Chow mein is a Chinese-style dish that consists of fried noodles, cooked meat, and vegetables.

一道中式菜肴，由面條、熟肉和蔬菜一起炒成。

來自粵語“炒面”chau mein。

例句：

Extremely popular in China and all over the world, this stir-fried noodle dish comes in many varieties. Cantonese Chow Mein is the most famous in Western countries. 享譽(yù)中外的炒面有很多種風(fēng)味，在西方國家廣東炒面最受歡迎。

3. Chop Chop

英文釋義：

Pidgin English for quickly .

洋涇浜英語：快速地

來自粵語“速速”chuk chuk。

例句：

Chop Chop！Get to work！We have no time to waste! 趕緊，工作起來啦！我們沒多少時(shí)間浪費(fèi)了。

4. Ketchup[?ket??p]

英文釋義：

Ketchup is a thick, cold sauce, usually made from tomatoes, that is sold in bottles.

番茄醬是一種濃稠的冷醬，通常由西紅柿制成，瓶裝出售。

來自粵語 “茄汁”ke jap。

例句：

I love putting kepchup on my fries. 我喜歡在薯?xiàng)l上擠番茄醬。

5. Kumquat[?k?mkw?t]

英文釋義：

A small, oval fruit that looks like an orange and has a sweet skin that can be eaten.

一種小而橢圓形的水果，看起來像橘子，外皮甜，可以吃。

來自粵語“金桔”gam gwat。

例句：

Having a kumquat tree at home symbolizes both "abundance of wealth" and good luck. 在家中擺一棵金橘樹象征著擁有滿滿的財(cái)富和幸運(yùn)。

6. Chop Suey[?t??p ?su?i]

英文釋義：

A Chinese dish made from small pieces of meat and vegetables, especially bean sprouts, fired together.

用小塊肉和蔬菜，尤指豆芽一起炒的中國菜：炒雜碎。

來自粵語“雜碎”jaap seui。

(指碎肉和蔬菜一起炒后就米飯吃，國外中餐館中比較常見）

例句：

I used to sit on its small balcony overlooking the street and read my book over Chop Suey and beer. 我經(jīng)常坐在它的那個(gè)小陽臺上，俯視下面的街道，一邊吃著炒雜燴，一邊品著啤酒。

1. Jiaozi

英文釋義：

A crescent-shaped dumpling of thin pastry dough, stuffed with a finely minced paste (typically made of pork, cabbage, and garlic chives), is steam-fried, deep-fried, grilled, or boiled.

由薄面皮做成的新月形餃子，（餡料通常是豬肉、卷心菜、韭菜等切成的細(xì)末），將其煎、炸、烤或煮。

例句：

Jiaozi, or dumplings in English, is one of the most typical foods eaten during the Spring Festival, especially in northern China. 餃子是中國最有代表性的春節(jié)傳統(tǒng)美食之一，尤其是在北方，過年一定要吃餃子。

2. Hongbao

英文釋義：

A traditional Chinese gift of money presented in a red envelope.

一種傳統(tǒng)的中國禮物，將錢放在紅色的信封里。

例句：

It is common for Chinese to distribute "hongbao", traditionally money in red envelopes, among friends and relatives during Spring Festival. 中國人發(fā)紅包很常見，按照傳統(tǒng)，春節(jié)期間親朋好友之間會互贈紅包。

3. Hutong

英文釋義：

A narrow lane or alleyway in a traditional residential area of a Chinese city, especially Beijing.

在中國傳統(tǒng)居民區(qū)里的狹窄小巷，尤其存在于北京。

例句：

The best way to experience hutong life is to simply wander around the alleys, either on foot or by bicycle. 就沿著那些小巷走走吧，這是體驗(yàn)胡同生活的最好方式，或走路或騎自行車。

4. Feng shui

英文釋義：

An ancient Chinese belief that the way your house is built or the way that you arrange objects affects your success, health, and happiness.

中國一種古老的信仰，認(rèn)為房子的建造方式或擺放物品的方式會影響你的成功、健康和幸福。

例句：

How do you know if the feng shui in your home is good or not? 怎么才知道你家的風(fēng)水好不好？
